Smashing and splashing the Ateneo way

Ateneo de Davao University has once again splashed their way to another successful event as they brought summer in the midst of August rush in Smash and Splash: Beach volleyfest 2012 held last August 26 at Costa Marina Dos, Samal Island. The event was organized by Red Plate Productions, the fourth year Mass Communications student of the said institution.

Ten different teams played head to head in a double elimination match up beach volleyball game. The different teams were - Accountancy, Business Management, Computer Studies, Humanities and Letters, Natural Science and Mathematics, Social Sciences, School of Education, School of Engineering and Architecture, College of Nursing and the Faculty Team.

The event kicked off at around eight in the morning with a short opening program and oath taking ceremony headed by Patrick Rabat along with the lighting of the torch. The main event commenced then after the short opening program.

Aside from the beach volley, there were also games for the other guests. Most of them were enthusiastic about joining where special prizes and gift certificates were given away.

To top it off, Dj Wacky and Dj Torch of Starr graced the event to rock the places with music and vibes. As the day ends, a fire dance was also performed before the championship game and Red Plate Productions staff also prepared a production number.

As the beach volley heat draws to an end, three top teams battled up to victory. Natasha Doromal, Chezka Yap and Abdul Juhuri of Natural Science and Mathematics bagged the 3rd spot. Janine Gonzaga, Sol Cabigas and Bryan Yu of Accountancy Department spiked their way to 2nd place. Finally, Business and Management Department smashed their way to the top as they were hailed the overall champion for Smash ans Splash Beachvolley fest 2012 with players Kathy Montinola, Quenna Ga-as and Abel Go, the latter declared as the Most Valuable Player of the event.

"Successful ang event and it was well organized and happy kami na nanalo kami, it was a long way to being the second runner up... (The event was a success, it eas well organized and we were grateful to have won because it was a long way to being a second runner up..)", Natasha Doromal said.

It was indeed a Smashing and splashing  event by the Red Plate Productions headed by Jan Joseph Bustamante, Genesis Lee Asuro and supervised by Mr. Rikki Enriquez, OSA Director.

"I knew that the event was a great success the moment I saw the smile in every person who was there. I was more than happy hearing ecery compliment they say before leaving the island. The spirit of sportsmanship and fun was live during the entire event. We were also grateful to those who came", Lee Asuro said in an interview.

The affair was also made possible by Costa Marina Dos, Holiday Gym and Spa, FTC Tower, RDL, Juice ko day!, Icecapades, AdDU Athletics Department, Office of the Student Affairs and Humanities Division.
